Birdbaths, Bird feeders. and Birdhouses

The look of American gardens in the 18th century showed strong influences from architectural pattern and garden design books. A number of these important volumes can be found in Colonial Williamsburg's rare books collection. The books provide wonderful illustrations of classical columns, obelisks, shells, putti, urns, stands, and basins, which inspired this line of distinctive garden accents.

Williamsburg Basket of Berries Birdbath - Verdi

Shaped like a shallow basket, this charming birdbath holds clusters of bas-relief blackberries. Ceramic wares based on naturalistic decoration, such as baskets of fruit, were popular in Williamsburg during the 1760s. Fragments of such wares have been excavated around the area, and exceptional intact examples can be found in Colonial Williamsburg's extensive ceramics collection. Made of sand-cast aluminum, our birdbath is inspired by those antiques.

Williamsburg Tulip Stand - Verdi

Inspired by classical ornament engravings in the Colonial Williamsburg collections, this baluster-shaped stand is made from sand-cast aluminum with a hand-applied finish. Circular and curving, it was a fashionable shape during the first half of the 18th century. It continues to offer a pleasing profile, well suited to the garden.

Williamsburg Classic Birdbath - Weathered Bronze

Birds were an endless source of delight and fascination in the 18th century just as they are today. They were studied and recorded by naturalists. They were favored by artisans who incorporated real and imagined varieties in textiles, ceramics, and other decorative wares. They were captured, caged and cared for as pets. And they were valued as an important means of pest control. Our Classic Birdbath is designed to provide endless source of delight to today's birds and birders.

Williamsburg Classic Stand - Weathered Bronze

The design for this versatile stand is taken from an architectural pattern book in the rare books collection of Colonial Williamsburg. The manual was the work of an Italian decorative artist, engraver, and designer who worked in London in the 1770s. He was well-known for his mural decorations and ceiling paintings executed in the classical style.

Williamsburg Petal Birdbath - Verdi

This petal-shaped birdbath is inspired by a small fluted dish that is part of the extensive collection of English delft or tin-glazed earthenware owned by Colonial Williamsburg. From year to year, selections from the collection can be seen at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum adjacent to the Historic Area in Williamsburg, Virginia. English-made delft was the most affordable decorative ceramic ware available in colonial America.

Williamsburg Lotus Leaf Birdbath - Weathered Bronze or Verdi Finish

Sleek and elegant, the cedar waxwing is a fruit-eating bird that wanders through Virginia and the Carolinas. Naturalist Mark Catesby, some of whose books reside in the Colonial Williamsburg collections, first discovered and illustrated the species in the 18th century. A perfect pair is depicted here perched on a lotus leaf, long considered a sacred symbol of purity. Made of cast aluminum with hand-applied finish, this birdbath looks equally alluring on a garden stand or terrace tabletop.

Each birdbath bowl measures 6"H x 16.5"W x 13.5"D. All stands sold separately below.

Williamsburg Shell Birdbath - Weathered Bronze or Verdi Finish

The graceful curves of the shell made it a favorite decorative element throughout the 18th century. The motif can be found on a wide variety of objects in the collections of Colonial Williamsburg. Many of these pieces are quite spectacular-one of them, a ceramic centerpiece composed of three tiers of conjoined shells, provided the perfect inspiration for the Shell Birdbath.

Williamsburg Voyager Birdbath - Verdi Finish

The age of exploration that spanned the 16th and 17th centuries had a profound effect on England and its American colonies. When European ships reached distant lands, they encountered amazing new species and materials-peonies, pineapples, mahogany, porcelain. These discoveries opened a whole new realm of design, which Williamsburg eagerly embraced in its architecture, gardens, and décor. This cast aluminum garden accent recalls the thrill of adventure as explorers traversed the high seas while using the sun as a navigational guide.

Williamsburg Dogwood Birdbath

The State flower of Virginia, the dogwood can be found in more than 40 species around the northern hemisphere. Its flower is sacred to many as a symbol of the crucifixion and caught the interest of 18th-century naturalist Mark Catesby. His "Mock-Bird" illustration featuring the tree is among the most beloved. As a quintessential spring flower, its likeness is the perfect design for a warm-weather ornament-made from cast aluminum, this birdbath keeps its good looks year-round.
